Sommet Sports TV is on Freeview Channel 14 and is available to all households with either a Freeview box or a Freeview capable TV.

With the delivery of free-to-air sports 24 hours a day, 7 days per week, New Zealanders are now able to view a wide range of different sports either previously inaccessible without subscription, or not covered by television at all.

Our schedule will have live sports events, multiple highlights packages, extreme sports shows, entertaining magazine programmes, and enlightening sports figure profiles. Our content is widely sourced from around the world as well as within New Zealand.

How do I install Freeview?

With a Freeview approved Receiver or MyFreeview Recorder (look for the Freeview logo on the product), and a working satellite dish or UHF aerial already on your roof, installation is relatively simple and it’s unlikely you’ll need any help to set up.  Check out our ‘how to’ videos for set up instructions.

If your new digital receiver/recorder doesn’t tune in automatically, then we suggest you first call the manufacturer for assistance (the phone number should be in the packaging or on the product guide). If this doesn’t solve the problem, contact an installer to get a quote for their assistance.

If you’ve purchased a non-approved digital receiver / recorder, we suggest you contact the person you purchased it from for assistance.

Check out the frequently asked questions at Freeview for more assistance.

It says in the description – you need a ‘working satellite dish or ariel.’ So it is or isn’t available via dish yet?!
        Thanks.

      Thanks for the tip.
We’re currently working on an SEO strategy.
Fortunately, due to the name we’re ranked 1st on Google under that. So that’s a great start.

That’s something we’re looking into closely but our main priority right now is Satellite. Hopefully we’ll have Sommet Sports on the net in the near future.

I would love to watch Sommet Sport but I have a TiVo box and it doesn’t show any programme info for this channel. It’s too much of a hassle to look up this website every time I want to find out what’s screening!
Any chance of uploading the programme info for TiVo?

      • Baldrick

        November 21, 2013 at 5:50 pm

This would be very dissapointing indeed.

        Please keep it Freeview only!

Sky subscribers are already well served with at least four sport channels as it is.

If one can afford Sky, then they presumably also have the disposable income to buy a freeview box with the capacity to record to either an internal or external drive.

Sommet is currently the only significant offering on Freeview that is ONLY on Freeview. If you guys joined the masses on Sky, there would be nothing to make you stand out from the rest, you’d just be absorbed by the rest. Freeview needs unique channels not found elsewhere.

        Please don’t do it! Please.

          April 15, 2014 at 7:02 pm

Do you have MotoGP for 2014 and beyond? I don’t think going on to SKY would be a bad thing, if it means more people get to see the hard work that you have put into this then it can only be be good. But you are still staying on the Freeview platform as well?

    • Richard Neal

      December 2, 2013 at 9:43 am

We would very much like to bring our viewers MotoGP for 2014. We will be able to confirm this very soon.
We are currently working to enable satellite transmission as well as terrestrial and expect to be able to deliver this within the next couple of months in 2014. We are only Terrestrial at this stage. Satellite transmission will then enable us to be everywhere, both Freeview Terrestrial, Freeview Satellite, Igloo, and Sky. Sadly the delays have been due to lack of space on the satellite platform.

      • Garry

        December 5, 2013 at 11:02 pm

You say lack of SPACE on Satellite platform. SKY is beaming test transmissions to NZ now from Optus D3. Heaps of unused space via SKYs 12707 on this satellite. (note this is not Kordias) See my other suggestions 1 December. YES this signal can be received on a SKY dish via its Dual LNB

  16. Graham

    November 27, 2013 at 3:58 pm

So your on freeview and what I’m reading seems your heading to the sky platform as well.

What about freesat? will that come as part of the sky platform move?

I hope so, can’t afford Sky and got no digital Ariel in my rented house so can’t get standard freeview.

    November 28, 2013 at 2:58 pm

I have family living in Whangarei and cant get Sommet, What do they have to do?. They have reloaded all the channels via Auto Tune but still cont get it. Is it available for this area?

  18. Garry

    December 1, 2013 at 1:25 pm

We are still waiting for you to be on Satellite. 2 SPARE slots up their for you. PRIME which is still displaying the banner and now moved to 12707H and TVNZ’z U Channel doing a repeat of TV2. TVNZ a bungling organisation trying to hold on to everything in its Mux. Sorry to say that Kordia, whom you have to deal with, is a money hungry lot that shafted Stratos. Beware. (This is where you are having the problems with this incompetent organisation) The 3 big boys don’t want you on there as well as it reduces their slices of the ratings cake. SKY probably wont release the old PRIME slot unless you are prepared to pay what they were paying. So it goes on. The National Government supports SKY taking over everything except the Maori Spectrum. Some one had to say some of these thoughts even if you cant. ALL THE BEST and a MERRY CHRISTMAS

  19. Garry

    December 1, 2013 at 1:37 pm

JUST ANOTHER THOUGHT for SOMMET SPORTS on SATELLITE: Go on a SKY Mux and negotiate with SKY to leave you unencrypted. EVERY Platform FREEVIEW and SKY covered then. OK pay a little more to SKY but it may be cheaper than having to pay for FREEVIEW coverage via KORDIA to have you on 12456H. Bargain between SKY and KORDIA and see what happens. OK sounds simple but there is the challenge for you.

  20. Steve

    December 7, 2013 at 8:41 pm

Thanks Garry for your comments above.
Good of you to say those things.
I used to watch Stratos then it disappeared.
I discovered Sommet a few weeks ago.
Impressed but like some above I have Tivo so there is no EPG attached to Tivo. This would be extremely useful. Without an EPG it is not one touch recording.
In addition, I see only one day at a time is displayed in the TV guide. It goes one day forward and then nothing. It does not navigate well so you have to click on the ‘TV Guide’ Tab to refresh.
Something useful would be a print button or ability to email it to your phone. (I used Ctrl+P)
    Keep up the good work.

Sommet Sports listings are in the TV guide magazine. A little old fashioned I know, but it does give you listings for the whole week. Hope that helps.

Appears we may missed some viewing that we would have enjoyed had their been a TiVo EPG! Is it prohibitive to supply this? Who should we be petitioning to supply your access to a TIVO epg?

    • Sommet Sports

      December 11, 2013 at 10:16 am

  27. Garry

    January 15, 2014 at 12:38 am

I reckon the old Prime position is destined for Sommet Sports eventually but SKY held out over the Xmas break to ensure those with Freeview in their holiday homes didn’t let them lose contact with the frequency change of PRIME. Im sure Sommet would have come out with an announcement by now if it was soon. Most likely SKY will release their old Prime spot to Sommet on April the 1st. What a Joke!

Can you please advise why the ability to record has disappeared in the last few days? Some of the sports I’m keen to see are on in the middle of the night so naturally I want to record them (I record onto USB – had no problems in the past recording Sommet and none on other channels).

I really enjoy the programming available on Sommet – a breath of fresh air for free to air TV.

    Hi Jo,
I read on a page linked from Freeview that the old Prime TV satellite transponder slot( same PIDs on 12456MHz ) would be used for Sommet. Is this true and is there any indication of time as Prime is no longer on the old frequency?
    Thanks, Doug.

    February 22, 2014 at 11:33 am

Hope the MotoGP negotiations are going well. Hopefully a deal will be in place before the start of the season? What other Motorsports are on your agenda? All your hard work is very much appreciated.

  49. dwayne

    February 25, 2014 at 7:18 pm

Nice to see you guys are gearing up for the AFL and hope the MotoGP is still in the bag. Any chance of showing more cricket tests and some winter sports eg speed skating, alpine skiing etc? Also hope you get onto satellite unencrypted as it seems strange to not do this when you are free on UHF anyway.

After 16 years of watching TV via Sky only(and rather frustratingly in regards to sports options), finally I have installed an UHF antenna just to watch sommet sports as its broadcasting Asia Cup Cricket live!! And lot more other sports which we can not watch even though we are paying for sports channels. Thanks a lot Sommet Sports for giving us the opportunity. Thinking of unsubscribing to Sky sports !!Bk2YMK

  53. Ian Dalla-Torre

    March 10, 2014 at 5:54 pm

Hi, I have been watching the posts here with much interest as I want to see the AFL. As we are unable to receive terrestrial signals in my location in Wellington, we are stuck with satellite for freeview TV. I need clarification, does the use of the satellite slot left by prime that is planned for Sommet mean that we will need a Sky subscription to see the freeview Sommet channel?
If this is the case, is there still plans for a streaming internet service. AFL season starts in 4 days, would like to know where is all this up to?
    Thanks Ian D

    • Richard Neal

      March 11, 2014 at 8:28 pm

We’re still looking into it but it is unlikely to be ready by the start of AFL season. Sorry.

    • Leslie Williams

      March 25, 2014 at 3:36 pm

      Hi Ian
I too am stuck with Satellite. You will have no problem getting Sommet Sports free to air off the Satellite come 14th April as the slot where Prime was is on one of Freeview Satellite Frequencies or TPs = Transponders that are F.T.A “Free to Air” like TV ONE/2/3/Four all on Freeview. Sky TV doesn’t have any control over how TV channels are broadcast on Freeview. That would by like TV3 telling Choice TV what programs they have to put on the box tonight.lol. So lay back and wait for 14th April the date Sommit Sports arrives on the Channel 14 Freeview slot. With EX Prime specs. And if you find that its not there by the 15th then I suggest that you do a F.T.A. manual network scan with your decoder. Cheers Leslie

Loving the fact that you guys have so many AFL games on each week. Sky always claimed the rights to AFL were really complicated and this is why they could never play more than 1 game a round. Don’t know how you guys have got all the games, but loving the fact that you have. Thanks!!!

World championship Motocross, Red Bull Air Races, AMA Motocross features and movies, European Rallycross, Moto GP etc. Fantastic! Hope you are buying the coverage to this years AMA Motocross series!!!!???
